Summer is here, and if you are looking for an outdoor play space, Newburyport, Massachusetts, has just what you are looking for!  

We have highlighted a few of the most popular outdoor play spaces in Newburyport, including two new inclusive spaces that are a must visit! 

Giant Sandbox

Looking for a giant sandbox? You will want to check out the sand play area of Perkins Park, located in Newburyport’s South End at 15 Beacon Avenue. In addition to a covered sandbox, there is a playground, sports courts, playing fields and even a scenic view of Joppa Flats! 

River Views

Cashman Park, a waterfront park, is located at 2 Pop Crowley Way along the mighty Merrimack River.

In addition to a playground, there are walking paths (that connect to the Clipper City Rail Trail), sports courts, including soccer fields, basketball courts, a baseball diamond, and tennis and pickleball courts.  

Quiet Neighborhood

Ayers Park is located at 1 Buck Street, Newburyport, MA and offers ample area parking within this quiet residential area.

In addition to a swing set and slides with accessible ramps, there is a flat paved area for riding toys and great seating for caregivers. 

City Shopping & Eateries

If you are looking for a small but fun playspace, a visit to the Inn Street Playground at 25 Inn Street is just what you need! Located in the center of Inn Street in the heart of downtown Newburyport, you can grab an ice cream or sweet treat at one of the many shops or restaurants, and explore the downtown area and waterfront attractions. 

Improved Parking & Accessibility

The Lower Atkinson Common Inclusive Playground is located within Atkinson Common, with an updated parking layout along 447-469 Merrimac Street you will find increased parking capacity and additional pedestrian safety measures. Designed to be universally accessible, everyone can enjoy the features of this park. 

Overlooking Historic Frog Pond

This newly renovated space (2024), the Bartlett Mall Inclusive Playground, is located at 151 High Street, Newburyport, MA within the historic Bartlett Mall park with views of the Frog Pond, home to ducks, frogs, and turtles alike. With walking paths and benches located in the shade, this is a great, updated, inclusive play structure that is within walking distance of downtown Newburyport.  

Nature Trails & Scenic Views

Located at 14 Spofford Street along the Merrimac River in Newburyport, Moseley Woods covers 16 acres, offering on-site parking, a playground, picnic tables, benches, and stunning views of the John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge.  

Beach Time & Playtime

The Jason Sawyer Playground is operated by the city of Newburyport and located at 266 Northern Boulevard on the barrier island, Plum Island, Newburyport, MA. The play structure is located only steps from parking,  the beach, a historic lighthouse and the Plum Island Basin.
