The Clipper City Rail Trail is a multi-use path that is enjoyed by walkers, runners, scooters, bikers, children in strollers and of course the family pet! The trail boasts a wide, paved path that covers 3.3* miles and connects to the Newburyport Harbor Walk. The trail also brings you through the downtown and waterfront area where you can eat, shop and play. (*Note: The trail is broken into segments, so you do not need to do the whole trail in one visit.)
The trail follows the historical route of the local rail line. Along the trail you will find plaques featuring interesting facts about its history and the people who worked on it. The trail also hosts over a dozen sculptures, paintings and murals.
Need a break from walking? Take a moment to enjoy the scenery in one of the many swinging benches you will find along the path. How about grabbing a book at one of the Little Free Libraries you will find on the trail or getting a refreshing beverage from a local cafe? ● Newburyport’s MBTA Commuter Rail Station – parking is available here and the trail connects directly to the station.
● Downtown Newburyport – parking is available in several lots along with a parking garage that is close to the trail.
● Cashman Park, Newburyport – located off of Merrimac Street and is situated along the Merrimack River, offers parking and easy access to the trail.
