VISIT A LOCAL SUGAR SHACK
ON THE NORTH SHORE

The days are getting longer and warmer and the sap has started flowing- It must be maple sugaring season!

Sure, you can head to New Hampshire or Vermont but did you know there are many farmers and families that have sugar shacks right here on the Northshore of Massachusetts?

Maple sugaring was practiced by Native Americans well before the arrival of Europeans to North America and it is still made locally today. According to MassMaple.org almost all of the maple syrup produced in Massachusetts is also sold here, which benefits both our local farmers and communities.

With mud season happening now (March and April) sugar shacks are up and running. in this blog, are few local sugar houses that you will want to visit, that are local to the Greater Newburyport area. You will find several sugarhouses in operation this time of year.

 

Byfield, MA

West Newbury, MA

Jennell Brother’s Pure Maple Syrup is located on Main St, West Newbury, MA where they also produce pure Massachusetts maple syrup sourced from over 230 local maple trees.

Ipswich, MA

The Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary offers tours as part of Maple Sugaring Saturdays in March. As a part of a guided tour you can learn how to identify maple trees, learn about tapping trees and sap collection and see it all come together in a sugarhouse.
