The North Shore of Massachusetts offers some fantastic winter walks, perfect for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing and an opportunity to enjoy the wildlife and scenery during the winter months.

Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, MA

74 Curzon Mill Road, Newburyport, MA 

Maudslay State Park includes over 16 miles of trails that wind through meadows, forested areas, and along the Merrimack River, perfect for snowshoeing, hiking and cross country skiing.

The winter landscape is particularly charming with snow covered trees, tall pines and open spaces. You will feel like you are in a winter wonderland. Don’t be surprised if you look up and see an American Bald Eagle as they are known to feed along the Merrimack River this time of year.

Woodsom Farm North, Amesbury, MA

Looking for a leisurely snowshoeing experience? Woodsom Farm North is a great place to start.  This is a popular location for hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and birding. 

Directions from downtown Amesbury, follow Lion’s Mouth Road from downtown to the unsigned driveway on the right at a crosswalk. Go to the end of the driveway where you will see the parking lot.

Whittier Hill Trail, Amesbury, MA

Whittier Hill Trail, although shorter in length than the Woodsom Farm North trail at .7 miles, it does boast some elevation that can be the perfect workout challenge. This is a well-loved trail by both locals and visitors alike.

Appleton Farms, located in Ipswich, Massachusetts was established in 1638 by the Appleton family and is one the oldest continuously operating farms in the country and is now managed by The Trustees of Reservations.
