THE SEASON OF FALL
IN RHODE ISLAND

Autumn Arrives in The Ocean State

Monday, September 22nd marks the first day of the Fall season. Here in Rhode Island, you can expect to start feeling and seeing the “Fall vibes” in late September- early October. This is the time when sweaters come out of closets, pumpkin-spiced treats appear in cafes and the days start to feel shorter, yet cozy. Leaves are starting to change color and gradually fall. Mid-October is the peak for that gorgeous warm and vibrantly colored foliage in most areas of the state. Coastal areas like Narragansett, Newport and Block Island tend to peak even later, towards the end of October. Many locals plan scenic drives specifically to see the foliage at its peak. When mid-late November hits, our trees are bare and the ground is covered in crunchy fallen leaves. Autumn in Rhode Island is a season full of color, crisp air and festive fun. From scenic walks through vibrant foliage to family-friendly activities and pumpkin patches, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Fall Farm Festivities

Throughout the year, Rhode Island farms showcase the best of each season, from vibrant flowers to festive activities. Starting off in September, you can stop by one of many farms for sunflower picking. These farms often have small farm stands where you can purchase fresh produce, baked goods and local crafts to enjoy along with your flowers. The fields are filled with bright yellow blooming sunflowers ready for pictures and cutting to bring fresh flowers home with you. A great way to spruce up your home with that “Fall feel”. After sunflower season, move right into pumpkin and apple picking season from September to early November. Not only are these farms for picking but some include hayrides, corn mazes and even petting zoos for a fun activity for all, after you’ve picked out your favorite Autumn treasures. Get lost in a twisting turning maze of corn that tests your strategy and teamwork if you’re tackling it with friends or family. The perfect recipe for a full day of Fall fun.
